Welcoming Visiting Scholar Hongmeng Cheng
We are excited to host Hongmeng Cheng as a Visiting Scholar in Mormon Studies.
Dr. Hongmeng Cheng completed his PhD in Religious Studies at Renmin University of China and is visiting from the Shanghai Institute of Socialism where he is an Assistant Professor. At the Institute, Hongmeng teaches classes on the religious theory and religious policy of the Communist Party of China. Prior to this position, he served as a Postdoctoral fellow at Fudan University researching The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Sino-U.S. relations.
While at UVA, Hongmeng will continue his research exploring the voting records of Latter-day Saints in the United States Congress in order to gauge their influence on legislation relating to Sino-U.S. interactions.
