Dr. Hongmeng Cheng visited for the 2018-2019 academic year from the Shanghai Institute of Socialism where he is an Assistant Professor. At the Institute, Hongmeng teaches classes on the religious theory and religious policy of the Communist Party of China. Previously, he also served as a Postdoctoral fellow at Fudan University researching The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Sino-U.S. relations. He holds a PhD in Religious Studies from Renmin University of China.

While at UVA, Hongmeng continued his research exploring the voting records of Latter-day Saints in the United States Congress in order to gauge their influence on legislation relating to Sino-U.S. interactions.
