UVA Mormon Studies and Dialogue Journal to Host Panel on “Race, Relationships, and the Life of the Church Now”
On April 25th at UVA Darden’s DC Metro Facility, UVA Mormon Studies and the journal Dialogue will host four Latter-day Saint scholars to discuss the aftermath of the 1978 Revelation on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The panelists will examine the aftermath of this revelation, including how racism still emerges both domestically and internationally and ways leaders and members can and do work together to root it out.
UVA Bushman Chair of Mormon Studies Laurie Maffly-Kipp will moderate the discussion between Historian Alice Faulkner Burch, Global Mormonism scholar Vinna Chowriamah, Professor Matthew L. Harris (History and Legal Studies, Colorado State University-Pueblo), and Professor W. Paul Reeve (Simmons Chair of Mormon Studies, University of Utah).
