UVA Mormon Studies Fellow Nicholas Shrum Delivers Presentation at University of Utah

On April 2, 2026, UVA Religious Studies Ph.D. Student, Mormon Studies Fellow, and Scholars & Saints podcast host Nicholas Shrum gave a works-in-progress talk at the University of Utah Tanner Humanities Center on one of his dissertation chapters entitled, “‘To American Jews, America is Home:’ Postwar American Jewish Exceptionalism and Promised Land Talk.”

Shrum delivered this presentation as part of his recently completed Mormon Studies Fellowship with the Tanner Center, during which he was able to complete further research for his dissertation, entitled “Alternative Zions: American Jewish, Mormon, and Black Visions of Sacred Nations, States, and Geographies, 1945–1976.”

With his University of Utah fellowship completed, Shrum will return from Salt Lake City to Charlottesville in the fall to work on his dissertation and teach the UVA Mormon Studies Program’s premier undergraduate course “Mormonism and American Culture”.
