Welcoming Postdoc Carolyn Howarter
We are pleased to announce Carolyn Howarter as our 2019-2020 Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer in Mormon Studies.
Carolyn Howarter earned her PhD in Anthropology at the University of Virginia in 2018. She spent a year and a half conducting ethnographic research in the Kingdom of Tonga focusing on Christianity, kinship, economics, and weaving. Her entry to Tonga as a field site and the Pacific as a research region resulted from her interest in the study of the spread of Mormonism outside the U.S. Her current research directions include Mormonism in the Pacific and the Pacific diaspora, as well as investigating connections between money, food, bodies, and religion.
While at UVA, Carolyn will teach the following courses:
- Mormonism and American Culture
- Religious Bodies
- Love, Romance, and Religion
