Katrina Lantos Swett, Keeping Religion Free in a Time of Radicalization

Our third annual Joseph Smith Lecture was given by former chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, Katrina Lantos Swett. Her theme was “Keeping Religious Free in a Time of Radicalization.” Dr. Lantos’ remarks were informed by her presidency of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice, a respected voice on key human rights concerns.
Dr. Lantos Swett currently serves on the Board of the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, the International Advisory Board of UN Watch, the Budapest based Tom Lantos Institute, the Advisory Board of the annual Anne Frank Award & lecture, the US Global Leadership Coalition’s New Hampshire Advisory Board, and the Advisory Board of the Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership, and Public Policy. Lantos Swett graduated from Yale University with a degree in Political Science at age 18. She received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and later earned a PhD in history at The University of Southern Denmark. She is a lecturer on International Relations at Tufts University.
