UVA Mormon Studies to Host Panel on Religious Belief and Belonging in the 21st Century

On October 25th, UVA Mormon Studies and the Forum on Religion and Democracy will host three scholars of American religious identity to discuss “Belief and Belonging in the 21st Century”. The panel will examine how religious identity in America, specifically within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has shifted in the last quarter century, and what it means for the future of organized religion and spiritual practice.

UVA Bushman Chair of Mormon Studies Laurie Maffly-Kipp will moderate the discussion between Professor Matthew Hedstrom (Religious Studies, University of Virginia), Professor Rosemary Avance (Media and Strategic Communication, Oklahoma State University), and author Jana Riess (The Next Mormons: How Millennials Are Changing the LDS Church [Oxford University Press, 2019]).
