Wed., 22 Sep., 1948:

“[Mt. Jordan Stake party]  A most delightful evening was spent in singing, speaking, and feasting.  I expressed appreciation of the scenery, the gorgeous mountains, and sensed the meaning of Shakespeare’s words–

And this our life, exempt from public haunt,

Finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks,

Sermons in stones, and good in every thing.”
