Adeline was born in about 1830. She first married Richard Bush. They were married 23 March 1845 in Hancock, Illinois, United States. One of the records also lists Adaline’s mother’s name as Caroline Butterfield. Then in 1852, Adeline and Richard were found again on a divorce petition in Salt Lake, Utah. The record can be found here. Apparently Adeline filed the petition for divorce from Richard on the grounds of abandonment. The petition was filed 25 June 1852. The last part of it states: “And whereas the said Richard Bush, your [petitioned] husband, did on or about the eleventh day of August, AD, 1845 disrespectfully, and illegally, leave the bed and board, house and lodging of your said petitioner without just cause or provocation. Now, therefore, the prayer of your petition is that the aforesaid contract of marriage may be legally dissolved and your petitioner set at liberty by granting her a bill of divorce according to the statues in such case [man] and provided, and as in duty bound your Petitioner will ever pray, Adeline Bush” So, if he abandoned her in August of 1845, they were really only married and living together for about five months.
